Meet Shemeka
A little about who I am, and why I do this work.
I started this business because of my own children.
I had twelve biological children, and I lost five to disabilities and complications. The seven who came home all needed IEPs and behavior intervention plans of their own — so this isn’t a process I studied from a distance. I’ve lived it, as a parent, at every table.
I first heard the word IEP in 2003 with my first-born son. It was at that moment I started educating myself and getting hands-on — because if I didn’t know what was going on or what to expect, I surely wouldn’t have been able to help my own child.
That’s why this work is more than a job or a business to me. It’s deeply personal, and it’s a big part of my life. When your child has mental or physical health needs, the school process can feel like a maze of jargon, meetings, and paperwork — I know how that feels because I’ve been there. My job is to help you understand the process, know what services and supports may be available, and make sure every child is given a safe and fair advantage at an equal education.
I fight for your child’s supports — their learning experience and the learning environment that fits them. I give children and families a voice. And I work with schools too, helping educators explain their side, understand the family, and make sure everyone is on the same page. Because the process only works when we’re all pulling together.
I’m not just the owner — I’m also a client.
